About Me

Alexander Swan stands with his family in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. Everyone is smiling and wearing Disney-themed attire, including Mickey ears on two family members, with the castle and visitors filling the background under a cloudy sky.

I am an Associate Professor of Psychology at Eureka College. My academic work focuses on cognitive psychology, memory, reasoning, bias, psychological science, and the use of film and media to teach psychology.

My path into psychology began at Los Angeles Valley College before I transferred to California State University, Northridge, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I later earned my MA in Experimental Psychology at CSUN and my Ph.D. in Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Across teaching, research, and public communication, I am especially interested in helping people think more clearly about evidence, belief, memory, scientific claims, and the ways psychology appears in everyday life and popular media.

Outside of teaching and research, I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, traveling, watching films (perhaps unsurprisingly), TV shows, and sports, and exploring new technology.
